FreedomBox and WikiSuite have many similarities. This page is to explain the differences and rationale of choices.
Similarities
- All FLOSS
- Designed for self-hosting
- Lots of available functionality
Differences
- FreedomBOX is based on Debian. WikiSuite is based on ClearOS (in the CentOS family)
- FreedomBox runs on low-cost plug ARM computers. While this is cool and may be offered in the future, it is low priority as WikiSuite can run on just about any laptop, even very old laptops that were originally running Windows XP. As a bonus, old laptops come with a built-in UPS, and are easy to move around.
- FreedomBox is a personal server, whereas WikiSuite is focused on teams. You can start as a team of one, and be ready to add more accounts later.
Questions
- To move towards a unified UI, WikiSuite is working to move all components to Bootstrap. Does FreedomBox have a similar initiative?
